Source-to-destination reconciliation is the process of comparing data before and after it moves between systems. The objective is to identify discrepancies that need investigation.

A practical reconciliation sequence

1. Define the source dataset and destination dataset.
2. Choose the key used to match records.
3. Normalize equivalent representations where appropriate, such as date formats.
4. Identify missing and unexpected records.
5. Check for duplicate or unusable keys.
6. Compare relevant fields and report changed values.
7. Preserve an auditable reconciliation result for review.

The approach can be useful during ERP migrations, operational-system transfers, integrations, database migrations and other situations where data moves from one dataset or system to another.
